During the night of March 11, 2006 the herring started to spawn at Two Coves.  This happens  every 2 - 3 years and can be an exciting time to be on our beach.  Millions of herring spawn on the seaweed  along the rocks in the front and back coves.  Sometimes the herring are so thick they bounce out of the water and land on the sandstone.  This picture shows the front cove milky white with the spawn.
The water is thick with  herring spawn and the ghostly shapes of the schools of herring move through the water.
When the tide goes out the seaweed is covered with herring roe.  Fresh roe on seaweed and Dried roe on seaweed is a delicacy and is delicious.
Seals and Otters  are all along the coast taking advantage of the amle food supply.  Sometimes the seals are so full they cannot dive and just float contentedly of the surface.
The back cove becomes a giant aquarium full of herring.
More herring in the back cove.
In this shot there are eighteen bald eagles resting in the trees.
